Services · LeadershipA finance team that drives decisions, without external support.
The end state of every Zurak Partners engagement is a business that doesn't need consultants. Capability uplift makes that explicit: building the in-house finance team's structure, skills and operating rhythm so the function partners with the business rather than reporting on it.
The pattern
Many finance teams in asset-intensive businesses are built for compliance. The accounts get done, the statutory obligations get met, and the commercial questions go unanswered. Operations makes million-dollar decisions weekly. Finance finds out at month-end.
The standard fix is to bring in advisers for every significant decision. That works, until it becomes a dependency. Each engagement solves the problem in front of it and leaves the underlying capability gap exactly where it was.
The work
The uplift works across three dimensions:
- Structure: roles, spans and the boundary between transactional work and decision support
- Skills: commercial analysis, business partnering and the judgement to challenge operations credibly
- Rhythm: a forecasting, reporting and review cadence that puts finance in the decision, not after it
- Coaching for finance leaders on the job, against live business problems, not in a classroom
- Capability transfer built into every other Zurak Partners engagement, so each project leaves the team stronger
The outcome
- A finance team operations seeks out before committing, not after
- Decision support produced in-house, at the standard a board expects
- A measurably reduced reliance on external advisers, including this one
When to engage
Often alongside another engagement. A cost review or interim mandate exposes the capability gaps precisely. It also stands alone, wherever a CFO or owner can see the team's potential but not the path to it.
A finance team with more potential than output?
A short diagnostic of the function's structure, skills and rhythm will show where the gap sits and what closing it is worth.
